I have a 97 E.B. and the compass has never really worked correctly it has a mind of its own i heard that you can hold down the reset button and drive in a circle. I would really appreciate any information. Thankyou!
Think I might be able to help. I have a 2001 XLT (no trip computer). There are 2 ways to set the compass.
1: Can set it by Zones (You will need your manual for this as your location is not listed in your profile). Turn you ignition to the on position. Press and hold the select button until VAR appears in the display. The display should show the current Zone number. Press the Select control until the correct Zone appears. The display will flash, and then go to normal operation.
2: Compass calibration adjustment. (Do this away from steel structures and high voltage lines). Start the truck.Press and hold the SELECT control until CAL appears in the display (about 8 secs). Drive the veh. slowly (less than 3 mph) in circle until CAL indicator turns off in 2-3 circles. Done.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-May-02 AT 01:04 AM (EST)]I tried calibrating my compass just like you said but nothing happened. I didnt get the screen so i decided to hold both buttons down to activate the reset mode, then turned on the vehicle. I found all these different areas on the screen but i didn't find a way to reset these areas? i am going to the dealer in a few days, but if any comment please replay to the message thankyou
I had the same problem on my 99 Expy, could not get the compass to calibrate whether I followed the correct procedure or not. All the time I spent on the damned thing, I ended up just replacing it (about 100 bucks, I think...) It comes off in about five minutes, it's the device behind your rear-view mirror...
My recommendation: just get a new one. Fixed me right up.
