7.3 Electrical problem ? Maybe
Hi, maybe you all can help me or give me a place to start. My 95 F-250 7.3 is stalling but then after awhile it will start again, go a little bit and then stall again. The battery light does come on before it stalls out, but when starting again, the light is not on. Where do i start? Connections, replace batteries, alternator, or something more technical? Thanks for any ideas. J

Sounds like your alternator to me however what is your dash voltage guage indicate before it dies? Usually on start up the glow plugs will be active and will draw the voltage to left of dead center on the gauge. Then after 2 minutes the glowplug relay will open and then the voltage should come back to center.
Try this; next time you start it watch the gauge and when its below dead center. Throttle the engine up to 1700 rpms. The voltage should show a increase to close to center with a few tick drops every once in a while. When the GPR trips out then you should be able to remove your foot and the voltage is maintained.
There are a few other problems that could be starting to agrivate the sittuation. Like the fuel bowl heater may be starting to lightly short out causing a draw on the alternator, or one or more of the 4 wiring harness that are under you valve covers are starting to go bad. There are two wiring harness connections per valve cover.
The pins are
[gp][injector] [common] [injector] [gp]
But try the simple test mention and if it looks bad diconnect the batts pull the alternator and have it tested.
Also you have any more questions or comments post them here 1994.5 - 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
