Have your mechanic check/clean the EGR ports in the intake manifold before installing the engine. I just finished an install of a lower mileage 5.4 in my Navigator and now I'm getting a P401 code, restricted EGR. So far it looks like the upper intake has to come off to clear the ports. Just one more headache involved to getting the job done right. Had I checked it before the install it would have been an easy job, but noooo I was in a hurry and overlooked an important detail. So now I gotta pay.

It would have been so much easier while the engine was out.

update: got a message on facebook from my mechanic that the old engine came out last night at midnight. he was heading to the boneyard this morning to pick up the used motor i bought and paid for on 04/12. hopefully it will be done in a few days. looking forward to seeing what difference the ported blower i also bought makes!!!
