NO HEAT NO DRIVE!!!!!!

I have a 02 v10 85k miles. when I turn OFF the heater the reverse lights come on.
when in park idling if the heater is off you CANNOT put the truck in to any gear.
as soon as you turn the **** that controls the heater functions" defrost, floor, or mix"to the right "passenger side" you can then engage the truck into any gear.
Once you have the truck in gear you can turn off the function **** but you will have your reverse lights on ALL THE TIME.
The heater MUST be on all the time in order to drive the truck , or you will have concerned people behind you worried you are going to back into them.
my local ford shop is something out of a cartoon. I have only had the truck there once for that cruse control recall and they F#*^ed that up I ended up spending over 700$ because of a recall?? YES I GOT THE SHAFT!! PLEASE HELP

Wow, this is bizarre. Any water or dampness on the floor on the passenger side of the cab?

No water on the floor. But you may be on to something, when I put it in reverse I can smell antifreeze. I have never left it in reverse long enough to see if water pukes all over the place. usally can smell it when backing up a trailer. the trailer dont have anything to do with it I dont think?? I believe it because its in reverse longer than if i was pulling out of a parking stall or the driveway

I think what Art is getting at is the windshield might have a leak. This leak allows water to leak down into the dash damaging the GEM, fuse block, etc.

yeah the dealer tried to blame the cruise control issue to the leaky windshield excuse. "a fuse box is xamount of dollars, its a common thing bla bla" Last year when the recall took place I caulked the ENTIRE windshield because the dealer told me to do it to so my cruise control and horn would work. so in short I dont think the fuse block is getting wet, but I can pull it out again and check.
I did have the tranny flushed right before all this started to happen. could that have anything to do with the truck not wanting the shift in to gear when the heat is off??? Today I notice that in the reflection of the bumper of the car in front of me that my head lights were on. when I went to turn them off I nioticed they were already off. once again the heater **** controls the head lights too!!!

I don't see how the tranny flush in itself could have anything to do with this. Sounds like you have some sort of short. Sorry I'm not of more help but I would really take a look at the fuse block. At least I can provide a bump and someone smart will be able to chime in.

I have nothing else to add that is helpful... BUT, would like to point out that you now have a truck that no one will be able to steal...

Just be sure that you shut the heater off before you get out each time.

haha now that is too funny!!!! yeah.. i will look at the block and see if anything looks wet.. I called the dealer today and man what a joke. they said they could not read any codes if there were no lights on in the cluster????? dose this sound right because I really dont want tom and jerry to start pulling wires under the dash on a hope and a prayer they will find something. and the nearest ford garage is 3 hours away. maybe the problem will just go away.
