Hi,
I have a 81 F100 with the 300 I6. The transmission is a three speed, that shifts on the coloum. I would like to know what transmission this is (is it a borg warner?) and what ratios are the gears?
Also, would this pull a load as well as the T18? Is it sycronised?
Also i have noticed that you have to pretty much ride the clutch in reverse to keep from stalling it. Is this a mechanical problem with the trans?
That should be a Ford 3.03 toploader 3 speed. They call it a "toploader" because of the large plate on the top where you take it apart. They made this tranny in different variations since the early 60's. Here's a picture.
ok, can anybody id the gear ratio's of the forward gears, and how well this tranny will do under a laod
As for your answer, i think your full of it, cause after som research, i found that the 3.03 never made it out of the 70's as stock equipment. I have also found that all the gears in a 3.03 toploader are sycronised, except for reverse. The toploader is a heavy duty trans designed as a replacement for the borg warner T10. It was a used behind 6 and 8 cylinder engines up to the 428 c.i.
Now back to the origional question, What is the three speed in the 1981 F100 with the three speed?
Uhhhhhhh wow. You told one of the more knowledgeable guys on this forum he was full of it when he was pretty much right on his answer - good luck with that, buddy.
I also agree it is a 3.03, but I am probably full of it.
First off, i aint stupid, the truck dosent have a toploader, i know that from the side mounted plate. enough said. You know what, i asked for gear ratios, and no one has them
Before you burn more bridges, post a picture of your transmission. More helpful answers could be made by seeing what you actually have. These great guys are guessing and assuming without more info from you.
Also i have noticed that you have to pretty much ride the clutch in reverse to keep from stalling it. Is this a mechanical problem with the trans?thanks for your info.
This sounds like you have hot spots on the flywheel along with clutch wear.
Again sounds like symptoms of a worn clutch. Depending on mileage it could be the synchronizers are worn. Usually worn synchros will throw the truck out of gear.
Then either let people help you and lose the attitude, or figure it out on your own, and as said before post a picture.
I also read that Wikipedia article you cited... Wiki is not the full on authority, but rather people like us posting information - right or wrong. I also read about a lot of people having issues and questions about the 3.03's in their early 80's trucks. I doubt they have all been swapped in.
No one here is treating you like you are stupid, but we are only working with what YOU have given us.
