i have a 93 7.3 liter diesel with an e4od. i hate that automatic tranny and i want to convert it to stick. i guy i know has a four speed and everything i need to convert it. but its from an 84 6.9 liter will his parts work for my 7.3L????
Yes it will work. Get the bell housing with the tranny. I think the peddle mounting bracket is different though, not sure on that. I like the zf5 tranny, I converted my 85 to that.
what is it about the E40D you dislike?
man,im totally loving mine! no more shifting.
i agree with farmert tho,if you do convert,i wouldn't go back in time, and lose the overdrive.
fuel mileage is so much better when you have the OD. either E40D or ZF-5 is the way to go when converting imho.
your buddy may give you a t-18/t-19 whatever in that yr.but your going to more than pay for it in fuel.
(very crude estimate,it appears im getting over 20 mpg avg.i drive pretty easy tho most the time.45-50 mph avg speeds.i do horse around once in awhile and have her launch me at take off cus its snappy and fun,and its still new to me lol. )
but,man im loving this E40D w/ the B&M shift kit.
Just remember, the T18 only has a 2nd gear syncro, whereas the T19 is a fully syncro tranny!! Physically the outer appearance is the same. The two models have a number of gear ratios' so cross reference the model / serial number so your not doing three grand in fourth gear. Of the two I would go with the T19 if you can't find a ZF-5.
