Hey guys
i remember reading in apost somewhere that if a truck sits for a whil seals dry up in the carb and it wont work right. I assume this would be true for the ones they sell on ebay even though they say they were drained. I s this true?
Thanks
David
Ok well... Lets say my truck had been siting for 14 years, and the PO said he rebuilt the carb after he bought it, what are the symptoms of a bad/ in need of soaking carb?
And How can I tell if he rebuilt it?....
Also If you know about my problem (77 F-100 with 302 truck runs really ruff and doesent like to stay started ) misses constantly, if I have a small leak in the fuel filter that screws into the carb ( it doesent leak gas but if I push on the gas it soaks arround a ring that is on the filter ( I will take pics of it when I can) and bubbles.
I was told by an in-experienced person that if it takes in air it is making my truck run leaner.
So I increased the fuel intake and it didn't change any.So If I have too much air (aka) a leak in my fuel filter, will that cause my problem?
I will take some pictures of this now.

If the carb has been full of a fuel the gaskets have already been expanded.

You can't, and after that long it does not matter.

I remember, have you checked the ignition? Do you mean push on the gas line? If so, it is just leaking and due to it's age it should be replaced as well as all the rubber lines.

Your fuel line is under pressure at the carb. It can't take in air and make your truck run lean. Fire your "experienced person".
-so I increased the fuel intake and it didnt change any,
How did you "increase the fuel intake"???
-so If I have too much air (aka) a leak in my fuel filter will that cause my problem?
You should know by now that so-called "leaking air" is bogus.
Just a thought but did you clean out the gas tank? A truck that sat for that amount of time will have a tank full of varnish and rust and ways just a thought.

an" in experienced " not experienced" sorry I hit the space bar while typing.
Check it now.
And the car was supposedly rebuilt after the 14 years so around 3-4 months ago.
Would I still be able to tell?
Yes I checked the Ignition, it is fine.
And no, not if I push on the gas line, its if I push on the throttle "bring up the rpm's" and I know it is under pressure and what he said didnt make sense to me either.
I was just wondering if it made sense to anyone else?
No ,I have not flushed out the gas tank...
I have never done it and dont know what to do !
I have a new fuel filter on it and it has been run bone dry once, sucked up a bunch of metal flakes into the factory filter"the one that is bubbling around the edges.
Would you recommend I still flush the tank?
If so, how do I go about doing this?
Also again, would you recommend re-building the carb?
Maybe soaking it?
And about increasing the fuel intake *making it run richer*
I turned the thing that says LEAN and as an arrow on it, it is about 1 and 1/2 " in diameter and is to the left of my carb, attached the choke.
Yes I would recomend that you clean out your tank. The bubbles that you see in you gas filter may be dirt and rust from the bottom of your tank. That would cause the problem that you are speaking about it hapend to me on my 197 F-150 when it sat for a year and a half. What I did was run the tank as empty as possable then I got a hose and siphoned the rest out make sure not to get any in your mouth. They also have tank cleaner at any parts store you can try that also.Good luck!!
