Unless there is some other reference to it, they are the same. Both systems are electronicly controlled. Probably in one reference they are saying Electronic Distributorless Ignition System and in the other they are just saying DIS.

What year is your Ranger and what engine does it have? Different years and different engines had different ignition systems. In the Technical Information section (at the top of the index page) go to the Engine section and look for: Ford DIS/EDIS "Waste Spark" Ignition Systems and you will find a discussion of the two types of systems.
Try including the specs of your truck in your signature and that info will always appear with your question.
