regren question

I want to know what you think. While pulling a load of about 14,000 lbs my truck regrens every 75 miles or so. Empty it will go about 400 miles between regren.

Some think under load it will heat up enough so it should regren less, other disagree and say more, your commits please.

2008 F450 4.88 rear

Thanks

I pull a 14k load with a similar truck with the 4.3 rear. Unloaded regen every 350-400 miles is what I'm getting. Regens happening more often loaded is normal but every 75 mile is a little too often. How fast do you drive loaded? More fuel burnt equals more soot equal more regenerations. There has been rumored that a self regeneration from the heat in the DPF from pulling fulling loaded won't happen in these trucks. It takes around 1000-1100 degrees F to start and maintain burning of the soot in the DPF. You need to put raw fuel in the exhaust stream to get these temps. I moniter the senors in my DPF with an Edge Insight. I have only seen these temperatures when the regeration is triggered by the computer and the fuel is injected. The temps in the DPF rise immediatly when the regen message comes on.

There should be some passive regen going on with that type of load. Sounds like there is an issue. Mine are around every 150 miles when loaded.

500-600 when empty.
