Whats wrong with Mobil 1? Used it in my V10 for years and was happy with it. Amsoil is great also just harder to find.

I was having this same conversation with a guy last night. He was trying to convince me to with a synthetic (not brand specific) in my 2006 V10. I personally have no idea what I should be using.

Dfbooth, I don't have an answer for you, but I am curious as to what people are running in the gas engines? Synthetic? High mileage motor oil?

Thanks for the post Dfbooth!

as of this moment and in my last 8 oil changes i've used mobil 1 completely satisfied. but my next 1 will be using royal purple. whith a royal purple oil filter. since my engine doesn't leak it's a wise move, if it was a leaker i would stay with conventional.

Been using Royal Purple in mine since I got it with 30,000 miles on it. Now have 125,000 miles. Changed the oil every 10 - 12 K and the filter every 3 to 5 K. Still runs like a new truck. I couldn't be happier with it for durability.

Don't let anyone BS you into think you need M1 or an expensive oil to keep your engine running in top shape. I use Pennzoil Plat, Valv Synpower, Q, Syntec or whatever synthetic oil is on sale. Your usually going to consume more synthetic oil than dino or a blend, just the way it is.

Napa Full Synthetic.
It's Valvoline Synpower in a "cheaper" bottle - like $1 to $2 cheaper where I live!

Just for the record, ANY name brand oil today, synthetic or not, is much better than the very, very best oils just 20 years ago and will prevent significant wear for at least a quarter to half million miles.
In other words, you pretty much can't go wrong if you need your vehicle to last the typical 200 or 300K miles.

So why do I use full synthetic?
- Longer change intervals.
- Valvoline's "best" additive packages to protect at start up and keep engine clean as my truck tends to sit a week or more between uses.

Right now Im using Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 with Motorcraft filter on my 2000 Expedition 5.4L. On my 2005 V10 SuperDuty Im also using Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 but might switch to Amsoil, Mobil-1, or Royal Purple.
Heres new Pennzoil Ultra, Pennzoil - Not just oil, Pennzoil

Amsoil. Nothing better to prevent wear and extend oil changes.
