Hey fella's I am thinking of getting my first PSD so exactly which brand of oil would be the best in your opinion,,,,Motorcraft version from Ford or what.. My nephew is a certified PSD mechanic and he says there are quite a few of PSD's using Motorcraft oil...I figured I would get your input also...Thanks
I like to recommend the major brand oil companies. I believe they are on top of the game because they have their own R&D labs and they market their product world wide for farm, fleet and industrial customers.
When you pick a brand name, I think these are the three most important things:
It meets or exceeds your engine's oil specifications.
You have a good reliable source for getting it.
You feel confident and secure using it.
You will be buying oil 4 gallons at a time for oil changes on a PSD. Discount department stores like Wal*Mart carry Shell Rotella T and Chevron DELO-400. If you don't want to depend on the retail stores for your sole supply, it's good to have an oil distributor or 'jobber' as a backup. They can supply you with literature and lubrication recommendations. Something you won't find at Wal*Mart.

Wal mart has you covered. As mentioned above, they carry Mobil Delvac, Chevron Delo and Shell Rotella in the gallon jugs. Take your pick, all three are good. They also carry the Motorcraft oil filter for PSD's.
I was in a wally supercenter today in the automotive dept (of course) while the wife shopped. They had 1 gallon jugs of Shell Rotella for $6.11 and the Mobil and Chevron wasn't much higher. Seems like a deal to me.
The Shell Rotella T 5W40 Synthetic was about $13.00 a gallon at wally world. I've heard that the price has gone up, but I haven't been able to verify that.
I stopped at wal-mart today to pickup some Shell Rotella T 5W40 Synthetic . I paid $13.00 and change two months ago. Today sticker price was $18.88, I called the Mgr over and complained about the price jump. He said okay how about $ 13.97 so I bought 4 more gallons. Squeaky wheel gets greased if it is loud enough. Would have bought more but thats all they had.
