The 5spd used in 89 F150's has an integral bellhousing, so you would have no choice but convert to a hydralic clutch. This trans uses a hydralic slave with the throwout bearing made onto it.
One item that also needs looked at, somewhere in the late 80's or early 90's, the speedo drive changed from inside the trans to an electrical unit that got it's signal from the rear axle.
Thanks, so is that true of all the 4.9 five speeds? Or is there a better year to look for? Would like to keep the clutch mechanical. When did the 5 speed first show up?? Thanks in advance.
I am not familiar with an NV4500 . . . used behind what?? I'm guessing this isn't a cheap swap. What I'm looking at is a $120 '89 5 speed setup I want factory and cheap This is an $800 truck, keep that in mind. Thanks guys.
Very few are the cheap things that don't end up costing more. If you want a 5 speed, you can have a 5 speed regardless of the price of the truck. How "cheap" it is will depend on how hard you shop for parts and how much of the work you can do yourself.
I find it funny to be the one getting lectured. I'm a Mustang professional . . I usually do the lecturing I fully understand the scenario, I was pointing out the price thing so you guys would understand. I have no experience with a 4.9. Want to talk other Ford engines? we can. But I'm admitting to knowing nothing about the 4.9. I was only hoping for some suggestions from the experienced . . just the facts will do. Thanks
With your experience dealing with mustangs, you should be aware of the T5. If you just plan to drive the truck, not work the devil out of it, the T5 would be an option.
True, I step over T5s around here . . but really wanted a simple stock swap. I have so much going on, I wanted no guesswork, no fabrication , , ,easy out of one truck and into the other. The good thing about the T5 is that with an adapter plate, the mechanical linkage and stock bell can still be used. So yes that is an option. Any others?? Thanks
Well, not if there are more possibilities So, no factory 5 speed with mechanical clutch . . so if I want the factory 5 speed, I have to go hydraulic, right? If I get an adapter, I know I can run a T5 with the stock clutch setup.Any others??
