I have a 96 150 standard cab. It has the factory runningboards and the supports are rusting, just had the pass side break.
My question is does anybody know where to get the supports for these trucks, dealer no longer stocks them, the parts stores say they can't get them, and all the boneyard ones are rusted the same (northern illinois, big surprise)
Any suggestions would be nice.
I have thought about that, but I kinda like the way the OE ones look. If I can't find the brackets I am looking for I will either custom make the brackets, or install aftermarket boards.
Any suggestions on aftermarket running boards is also appreciated.
check with your local wrecking yard and see if they can have rust free ones shipped in from out of the area. most yards are connected in a network where they can check each other's stock. beware this could get costly. best bet may be to fabricate your own.
if you can't find them in a junk yard, you will have to get them fabbed up,nobody makes them. This has been asked several times, nobody has found a supplier yet.
LUND made the factory steps for FORD and they made their own. You may be able to locate a Obsolite set in a warehouse w the LUND name on them. Either that or make new brackets out of real metal instead if sheet metal
I can't say for sure, but I always thought the factory boards were made by Lund. The Lund "Street Boards" or whatever they were called look the same to me. Was told awhile back that they were going obsolete and their site does not show them as available, but maybe with a phone call they have some backstock of the brackets, etc available?
I think you would be better off going with an aftermarket step or tube that bolts to the frame because that would be much stronger. I broke my factory running boards off of my truck by putting all my weight on them last week so I took them off the rest of the way. In fact I just finished taking off the matching mud flaps in the front last night. The passenger side is what initially broke, and it broke off the mount from behind the cab. The truck looks much better now thats for sure.
