I have a craftsman one that works well and like 3 sizes of C Clamps too :-) - I even have the caliper grease that I bought for the job...
Question - should, as part of the job, I get like the brake hardware kit? has like new little metal parts, etc?
Can I re-use the Caliper bolts? on my 89, and I think any of that era Ford truck that was 2wd, they used a set of pins that are like square pegs that tap into the grove, and they tell you to never reuse those, but they are rubber, so that is why I'm sure.
If they are the rubber hammer in pins I would get new one's. Hardware kit for the rears if you do them..I don't know what the front brakes look like on that vehicle.
Buy the hardware kit & a tub of synthetic brake grease. Replace the pads & if the rotors are scored too much consider getting new ones (any hammer on the brake pedal ?). If the caliper pins are good you can take back the hardware kit for a refund. Don't forget to fit the anti-rattle springs when installing the new pads.
The rotors are drilled and slotted, so I was thinking of just having them turned - maybe actually getting another set, and then always having one good to go...
Do Explorers go through brakes? I think I only have about 15K on this brake job, and they are squeaking all the time now... still stop, but surprises me
