I (for the most part) followed the directions from this thread. I didn't want to go digging an old tread up from 2008, but it is linked here for anyone else to follow:
It worked great! For a total cost of $19.72, I now have a true "Wait to Start" light.
Anyways, if you have about ten feet of 18, 20, or 22 gauge wire, you will save $7.54.
I was very lucky in my install, as I had a black weather plug that went from the driver's compartment to the engine bay. Looking from the driver's compartment, it was a flat disc, about the size of a half dollar, that was above the carpet line, and just to the left of the brake assembly. From the engine compartment, it looked like a rubber cone that was sticking out just to the driver's side of the brake booster. I pulled it out though the inside of the truck, and poked a hole in the cone end of it. I ran my hot wire through this hole and re-installed the plug.
If anyone needs pictures, I will most certainly pass them along. If you need the pictures today, PM me and send me your cell phone number and I'll send them that way.
Anyways, thanks sflem 849 and wmriceman! Sent you reps!
I read the entire 2008 postings on installing this LED-GPR light and there seemed to be a question as to making this Mod work on the Cali truck because of the "Shunt".
Why couldn't the power wire for the LED just be hooked to the lug to the shunt? When power to the shunt/glow plugs stop, the light goes off. What am I missing?
