Pulling the fenders isn't going to help you. There's still chasis behind those fenders. Do a search for headstuds without pullilng the cab. Plenty of threads out there.
No pictures, it was too cold to stop working. I took the hood, bumper, all the radiators and coolers, a/c condenser, the front core support and the entire fan assembly off when I swapped motors. It took us about 2 hours to get it that far. The pro's would say that is too much work to just change head gaskets. If I was going to do head gaskets again, I would do the same thing. It is a huge PITA to lay over the engine and muscle all those heavy parts out. With all that stuff out of the way it is easy to get an engine hoist in there and hook up the heads to pull them out. It will also make it much easier to get the ARP's torqued. It is tough to pull 245 ft pounds of torque laying on the fenders. JMHO
ya dont pull the fenders it wount help you.
the front just unstaks very easly. you will need to drain the ac. there is one trick to it and thats to pull the a/c condenser out berfore you remove the header panal (headlight panel). there are 8 bolts that hold the upper core support in at the top. the rest is easy.
I dont take the cab or the front of the truck apart to do them but its less of a fight if you do.
I did not evacuate the A/C when we swapped the engine. I just maneuvered the condenser to up and to the side. We were careful working around it and it survived the transplant.
When I pulled the heads the first time, we worked over the top of the engine. It is difficult to get the engine hoist in far enough to hook up the heads and raise them out. When putting them back in, without the special Ford lifting tool, it is very frustrating to get the heads in at the right angles and pitch to mate the heads to the block. When you remove the front end stuff, the hoist can go in closer to the fire wall and at a much better angle of attack. You have better access to figure out the best way to hook up the chains to the head. JMHO
