390 harmonic balancer

390 harmonic balancer

Hey guys. I have a quick question. On the 390, where is the harmonic balancer? This morning i looked where it i thought it would be(right behind the pully on the crank) and all i found was the pully. If you all would help me out, i would appreciate it.

You looked in the right place, and there it was! The pre-'68 balancers are real thin and have a built-in pulley. The '68 and later are thicker and had bolt-on pulleys.

I'm not sure what year your 390 is, but the early FE's ('59 to at least '63) had very thin balancers. You've got to have a balancer, because that's what the pulleys bolt up to. If you have a later FE ('75 or '76), it may be hard to get a good view. Try crawling under the vehicle for a better view.
