The other day I ordered a pair of Mr. Gasket FE header gaskets from Jegs for my 360. They came a few days ago and I went to put them on today, but I ran into one tiny problem. THEY DON'T FIT!
The gasket ports are too big, as in, they fit over the part of the header that is supposed to press against the gasket. Now my question is: was I wrong to order the FE gaskets for my 360 or did Jegs send me the wrong gaskets on accident? If it was my fault, what header gaskets should I order?

I have a set of Blackjack Alumacoat headers (13+ years old) for a 360. I got them from a clearance store, so they were already opened and didn't have the gaskets. Standard 360/390 exhaust gaskets are too big for the headers, even though the hole in the head matches the header perfectly.
What I wound up doing was using the 330 (small port) gaskets that are metal on one side and "clay" or some kind of black stuff on the other. The ports are shorter, so I cut out enough of the gasket by hand to clear the exhaust port but still hang onto the header flange.
I then used Permatex Red High-temp RTV, spread on both sides of the gasket, allowed to skin over. Then, bolt up the headers to the heads with the gasket in place. Works great! I've had to take them off three times in all, so they have been done four different times and each time it works great. Remember to retorque the headers at least once a day or more if you drive it a lot. Do this for a week or two until you notice they do not come loose anymore.
Currently, these headers are on the 390, and still working great.
If you have the stock truck heads, try a Hooker gasket with the Holley p/n: 10825HKR. You can get them from Kragens. Apparently since Holley bought them out, they are using different part numbers for the gaskets.
I think they are the same ones I use. I had a heck of a time finding gaskets to work with my headers and the hooker guys said they would port match my edel heads and flowtech headers perfectly. They were right. I have had absolutely zero problems with these. The cardboard type gaskets are all I use. The guys at the local speedshop said I was crazy but I'll be crazy with no header leaks.
The hooker header gaskets I listed above will not fit edelbrock heads. The gasket for their FE car headers might work with edelbrock heads. The ones I listed should fit the later stock truck heads.
