Started to break down the engine today. Did break several exh. manifold bolt head off. About 1 in. stub left. All were the ones behind the metal exhaust shield that distributes warm up to the air cleaner.Should have removed that last Saturday before I quite and soaked those like I did the rest.
Should I soak them, heat them and then try vise-grips or just cut them flush and use a reverse drill bit?
I am still looking for suggestions for less expensive headers that will fit with a '83 ford cutaway motorhome.
Going to do rings, valves, check bearings, front auto trans seal. Engine has only 51,000 miles on it.
I never fight with them. I always just cut the heads off of them with a torch if they look like they will be trouble. Then I deal with them when the head is off. That way I always have something to get a hold of when I heat them till they come loose.
A reverse drill bit won't do you any good. If you don't have a mill, I'd just drop them off at a machine shop and let them deal with them. It won't cost much money compared to buying another head if you would mess them up.
