I have a79 dana 44. Im wanting to install it in my 85 f250. Both are leaf spring. Is it preety much a bolt in or is there more to it? The steering has me stumped also. Any info on this would be very helpful. Pics would be great.
the 77.5-79 D44HDs(I guess thats what you are talking about) have a different spring perch width (32.5 vs 36.5 IIRC) than your 85. You should be able to weld new spring perches though. The driver side tube of a D44HD is pretty long but not as long as a 60.
The steering probably has you stumped because of the J shaped steering arm on the driver side. The late 70s 250s used a push pull style steering instead of the left right style of the 85. You'll need to have the passenger side knuckle machined and tapped for a crossover steering setup to make your steering box to work.
Is the D44HD much of an improvement over the ttb in his truck if it's a D50 ttb? What's the application for the truck? Maybe you should sell that off to some unsuspecting Bronco guy on FSB that thinks a solid d44 is the holy grail and get yourself a bolt in D60 from the same era truck as yours
