Thanks Guys, I must live in expensive town USA. They want $39 for one at Oreily's here but I was finally able to find one at Autozone for $16 and I'll pick one up tomorrow. I cut off the rusted old plug in and replaced with new plugins hoping that was it but with no change. I did pull the reg apart though only to find a circuit board that looked fine. I'm going to hope that's it and spend the $ and we'll see.

Here's the genuine Ford alternator regulator that you can buy from your local Ford Dealer (just up the road from Federal Way in Burien) from PARTSGUYED.COM
FOPZ10316A .. Electronic Voltage Regulator (Motorcraft GR540B)
MSRP: $50.93 // PARTSGUYED.COM price: $27.50. Cheaper than O'Reilly's and not made in China like the Auto-Zone regulator.
FOPZ10316A replaced: E2PZ10316A, D4TZ10316A and C3SZ10316B.
No Good Guys, Still not charging. Brand new Reg and alt. Where do I start now? I'm at a loss, checked all wires and no change while looking at the gauge.

You are looking at the alternator gauge on the dash, correct?
Is it reading a negative charge? If not...
The needle barely moves to the right of center when the system is working properly.
Have you considered the alternator's dash gauge could be defective?
It's obsolete, but...someone asked me several days ago if anyone has it (C5TZ10883E-use with sweep speedo). There are 14 still available from dealers/obsolete parts vendors.

If you thought you had a momentary charge when moving the regulator terminal, I would be going in the direction a loose connection somewhere, Put your meter probe on one of the alternator terminals and the other to ground. Check all the alternator terminals. There should be voltage there somewhere. If there is move down the line connection by connection. Be doublely sure to check the battery ground connections,
Okay I'm going out to start at ground zero. Bill I only have an idiot light on the dash and I'm using a volt meter. One question though there is a very small fuse in the fuse box that I have had problems with in the past, does anyone know what this fuse is for? I have no power to it at all. I replaced the plug that went into the regulator yesterday thinking that may have been the problem but now I can't duplicate the intermittent charging I was getting.
Very frustrated now.
Thanks guys and keep them coming it's helping
Rob

Ask "Squire" Don about the small fuse, he has the owners and shop manuals.
The parts catalog lists the fuses by amperage, but doesn't say what they're for, or where they go.
I found a bad wire coming from the regulator I hadn't noticed. I think a wiring harness will be in order next winter maybe, these are so hardened they'r cracking all over the place from removing the front end and the new motor install. Betsy thanks you for all your help guys, she's purring like a tiger once again.
