I have a 92 Bronco with an automatic tranny. Ok heres the problem. I can only give it about half throttle. A little more than that and I get a wicked shake. It kinda feels like a wheel that is way off balance on the highway. If I make it down shift, it will be fine until I back off the throttle to about the same position again. It doesnt seem to be related to a specific rpm range. The best way to explain it is it feels like when your in a standard and your in too high of a gear for the speed. It feels like its struggling.
I have done a tranny fluid and filter change and added a bottle of Lucas. Would a little too much fluid in the tranny cause this problem? Please help, I am going nuts!
Acutally I just had the U joints replaced. Front and rear. I didnt do the work myself, so is there anyway for me to check there work and make sure that the joints are good?
yes, put the transfer case in neutral and then climb under the truck and try and twist the drive shaft , there should be no play what so ever. also did you do the tranny fluid change yourself, might not have gotten the filter in right.
No, I didnt do the tranny fluid change myself. I had them do it when they did the U-joints. I guess thats what I get for not doing the work myself. Getting lazy in my old age. I will check the U-joints when I get home.
One more thing I remembered about the problem is that when I am getting the shaking, the speedometer needle bounces. It does still move up with the speed, but it is erratic.
I would take it back to the shop and have them check it out, explain that this as never happend before . try and get a free inspection out of it. How many miles are on that tranny and what type is it (aod, e4od) ??
The tranny is an E40D and it has 68000 miles on it. I will definately bring it back to the shop, I just hope they dont give me any problems.
Thanks alot for your help.
I dont have a scanner unfortunately. Do you have any idea how much it costs to get that done? And should it be done by Ford or can I take it too any local shop?
Some major auto parts chains like Autozone and a few others will pull the codes for you for free. I don't know about where you live, but around here Ford dealers want $100 and up just to hook their computer to the one in your truck.
