Drivetrain Help
(it's a 4x4 Van but has F-250 drivetrain)
While driving I start hearing a low tone knocking sound. Sounds like something is half hanging off a driveshaft and slapping something with every rotation. Very prominent, but only under load (accelerating). making my way home it gets worse. The noise is now happening under engine braking conditions (coasting). Put it in 4wheel drive and it is even louder. Slight loss of power transmission. I feel it when I put my hand on the T-case shifter. Vibrations coincides with sound.
Not sure what it is, so I pulled the t-case, tranny, an torque converter. Flexplate is fine with no cracks.
Tranny fluid color red with fine silvery power/like substance in pan. Not much though, (band wear??) T-case fluid was dark red with same stuff in bottom of case.
The T-case chain has about 2" of play. Seems like a lot but not indication of slapping the case body.
Can anybody help with this?
U-joints seem okay. No excessive play.
Thanks,
~C
