I have a 1996 f250 5.8l xl 4x4 and i just twisted the drive shaft. i cant seem to find any online. No part number or even any pictures. Goin to check dealership tomorrow but would like to shop around... Any ideas?
Almost any junkyard that uses a forklift to move vehicles will have destroyed the shafts. I actually said something to one scrapper who told me he didn't have any RWD truck drive shafts because of that. I said, "You know, even if you sold them for fifty bucks, it'd more than pay for the ten minutes it takes to loosen up four bolts before you picked the thing up." He just kinda stared at me. Lots of gas tanks die this way, too...
You could try to find a driveshaft shop and either have them repair (re-tube) the old shaft or build you a new one from scratch. It would likely cost more than a junkyard shaft, but it would probably save money over the dealer part.

Our '87 has a shop-made shaft under it. My mother was taking it downstate for a funeral and her driveshaft came off and bounced around. Got a new exhaust system that day, too.
I've come close to forbidding my mother from riding/driving in our trucks in that part of PA, we've lost three driveshafts, and cracked a bell housing in that same area, and we only go through there a couple times a year.
So i called the dealership for the part to make my life a little easier... he tell me $650 for the part and then tells me that it is dis continued and there is no way to get one...
next step junkyard- you were right! every f@#$ one of those drive shafts were bent .
now ive done the massive search of used parts. got about 25 phone calls and 50 emails. after talking and sorting through half of them i fanaly came across somebody who really had one ($210)...seems to good to be true so i'll have to wait and see what i get.
thanks fellas
I just had mine reshafted with new u-joints at a driveline shop and it cost $300cdn. I would imagine it would be cheaper in the states. The only things they reused were the pinion and the yoke.
sorry man, had no idea that a junkyard wouldn't have them. i got small junkyards where i live and a lot of the vehicles are brought in on flatbed and just put in a spot they double stack some with a forklift but thats just cars
Make sure the length is the same, whatever you do... there are a bunch of different driveshafts a few inches longer or shorter than mine, and it took three yards before I found one that was just right.

what part of pa is that in, im in washington county and havnt seen anything that rough to do anything like that
Lycoming county to Lewisburg. It's not rough road, it's actually great road for PA. It's just bad luck.
If you were having that kind of bad luck, maybe it would be cheaper just to crawl under the truck and check for loose bolts and u-joints before you take off through that part of the country...
