Well in the past year i have had my carb rebuilt (the original 2 barrel 2550 i believe motorcraft.) and i had some of my emitions stuff taken off.
But lately it seems as if i havent had as good gas mileage. But while i just checked my oil today it smells as if there is gas in it?? What could be the cause of this and how can i fix it?
Also throughout this winter when i first start my truck its been very rough running. It will chug and almost wont let me accelerate any. But if i let it run a good 5 mins or so before hand on its own it will rev up fairly loud, but than it will run fine. Whats the reasoing for this? Also if i try and run it as soon as i start it it will run very rough and it will just drink the gas.
Right now any gas mileage help i can get would be great!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ANY AND ALL HELP!!!!
Thats pretty much a sign that your fuel pump is going bad.

Reason: Kirby made me 40% sure ha!
If it was his fuel pump, I'd think the oil level would be going up...my truck's oil smells of gas too, but the fuel pump is just fine and the oil level never goes up. From what I've found out, it's just due to a rich air-fuel mixture. I have a 302 with a 2550 Motorcraft carb.
Have you tuned the carburetor and adjusted the choke? A number of years ago, I had issues with loading up and overall poor driveability due to a misadjusted choke. I personally just rotated the choke housing til the choke plate was wide open, but the way I would have done it, had I had what I needed, would have been to just properly set and wire up the choke.

Correct, the oil level isnt going up, or if it is it isnt going up that much.
I agree that you should try adjusting the choke. I remember something like that happening on a Falcon we had and I replaced the choke it it went away, but I've had others that I had to rebuild the carb. Keep it simple though, it's most likely something simple such as the choke.
Okay sounds like adjusting the choke is the first thing to try!!
But the thing is im not exactly sure how too do this?
Could anyone run me through it or show me a tutorial on how to do it? I've really been interested in learning about carbs so i can further tune them when/if needed. But i've never really been shown whats what and what does what ect...
Well, what I did to get me by was loosen the three screws on the choke retainer ring (the spring-metal ring that holds the black choke housing on) and rotate the housing slowly until the choke plate is open almost vertical. As far as properly adjusting the choke, I'm not exactly sure, but I'll find out once I get around to finishing rebuilding my own carb. lol
If you do a search on '2150 + choke', or something similar, there are a couple of excellent step-by-step threads by FMC400 on setting up these chokes.
Rotating the cap is part of it, but there are other steps first to get a good result.
Having said that, I just converted to a manual choke because the carb I have won't be staying long term.
Sorry, again I assume. With the engine cold, first you loosen the screws on the choke over (black plastic piece) then turn it, I believe clockwise until the choke plate starts to open, then turn it in the opposite direction until it just closes, then tighten the screws back down and it should be set and ready to go granted it's all hooked up and functioning properly.
