I was told that in '01 that ford was switching between lower annd higher copression engines. The 1550 was a little lower and I was just wandering what I had.

Ok, Well, I haven't heard that for '01's, what is different for 01 is Powdered Metal Connecting Rods. 2000 and earlier 7.3's had Forged Connecting rods, and are thought to be stronger.

Now, as far as compression, 1994 and earlier 7.3L IDI diesels were 20.5 - 21:1 compression. Where as 1994.5 and up PSD 7.3 DI turbo diesel are around 17.5:1 compression.

Powdered Metal Rods (PMR's) are weaker than the forged rods they replaced. The easiest way to tell what you have is to pull the inspection plug and look... the info is in the 99-03 7.3L forum.

I looked awhile back to find out if the compression ratios changed between years but everything I found said they all had the same compression ratio from 99-2003. Didnt check the OBS trucks years.
