I have an Alexandrian Ring Neck Parakeet. I hate this bird with all of my heart. I hate indoor birds anyway. This bird is loud as hell and she doesn't know when to stop. I'm trying to teach my cat to stalk the bird and eventually do what cats do.
BTW, this is my wife's bird and she's not willing to part with her.
Don't currently have any birds but we do have 3 cats
I grew up around parakeets so, yeah, I know exactly how you feel lol... How can something so small be so incredibly frikken loud?
Stupid too - if you put a cover over the cage, the bird thinks it's night and quiets down - every parakeet we had did that - might be something to try...
Finches aren't much better - not as loud but... they... never... shut... up...

Bill, back when we had our ranch with horses and chickens and such, I had this one russian chicken ( Tina) who would hop on my shoulder and go for a ride when I opened the gate to drive in. Kinda funny
We had an Alexander Ringneck and he was pretty mellow most of the time. He could talk and knew a couple cute phrases. When he did squawk, yeah, he was pretty loud. We also had a Sun Conjur. He was really loud all the time. He was a nice pet until the dog bit him. Then he turned crazy and mean and just wanted to scream and bite.
We were both going deaf with the two of them shreiking at each other. Plus all the dust from their seeds and feather dander was just kind of dirty having them in the house. So when we moved... I gave them to my boss.
We had a cockatoo (sp) for a while , He spent all day taking his cage apart to get out(I put it together with vice grips & squished the cap nuts a bit). We'd get home to see he'd eaten the woodwork . He'd come walking out in to the next room (like he was supposed to be there) , "HELLO",.... hard to be mad at him ....
He was loud too,
The worst was he didn't like the kids , so he had to go ...
We had a Conjur for a while & wasn't very happy to be at our house . my wife raised it from a baby , almost sounded sad all the time ..We had a couple of cockatiels (sp) also , but they didn't live very long for some reason..
We've had two Conjurs, one at a time. These guys were mean as hell. Once we figured out that if you clip their wings, they tend to mellow a little and they don't act so predatory. These guys both knew plenty of words and we actually had fun with them. My current bird knows little or nothing. We got her form the local SPCA so we know she's an escapee. Someone suggested that she may have had a mate in her previous house and she's squawking out of loneliness.
I've never harmed an animal....yet. She's about all I can stand. She does sleep all night, we don't need to cover her cage as she is on a schedule. But at 0700, the house is awake.
