I have a 1994 f350 with a 460/e4od which has numerous problems in the engine managment and transmission. it is to the point I would rather replace than repair.
I saw a listing for a 90 460/c6 and was wondering what kind of combo this is known to be and is there any big hurdles in the conversion. I would get the whole 90 truck (whats left of it) so I can't see why it would be that difficult

Remember by switching to a c-6 tranny that you will have NO overdrive=worst MPG. the E4OD tranny is also ECM controlled.why do you have so many probs in the engine management? what are they?? getting a speed density ECM to run properly isnt a hard thing to do. First make sure there are no Vacumn leaks!!!! next test your sensors and see if they are operating properly. ECT-IAT-O2 -EGR -MAP-IAC are your sensors and they need to work in harmony with each other. If any of these are bad your motor will run like crap. I personally like the C-6 tranny as its bulletproof. I would fix the problems you have rather than convert your setup. Do a search on here and go to www.fordfuelinjection.com to learn about the EFI on your truck. Also have you done any type of modifications to your motor? emissions ? Remember that speed density ECM`s do not like changes. Hope this helps Man
I think that this motor and trans have passed the point were it is economical to fix them. I am pretty sure that this truck got zero maintence before I got it.
Switching to the C6 is one of the benefits becuase of its reliability. This is a farm truck and doesn't get used like a daily driver so losing overdrive isn't that big of a deal. Other E4od's I have had have treated me well, but this one is shot and it is expensive to fix.
I think that the trans is half the problem the aging emissions equipment is the other half. Beyond that I don't really want to stick more money into this motor I dn't think it will last. One head has 2 bad plug holes, they have helicoils in them but I wouldn't bet my life on them. it has the slightest coolant leak into the oil, and the rear main is starting to leak more.
This project is based on getting a replacement cheap and investing some sweat equity to get it by for a little while longer
