Hey guys I wanted your oppinion on something. I have a 1996 F250 2wd Powerstroke 5speed manual single cab. I have a buddy that has the exact same truck but it is 4x4 it was in a wreck and was hit in the rear. He took the motor out and used it in another truck but left everything else. I was thinking about using the parts from that truck and converting mine into a 4x4. Have any of you done this? I have studied the trucks side by side several times and it looks like it will be as simple as unbolting the front end components out of mine and replacing them with the components out of the other same goes with the transfercase and such. My buddy said I could have the parts I needed off of it to do this.
i don't know about the full size trucks but the rangers and explorers around those years used the same frames for 2 and 4 wheel drives. simple bolt on swap. im bored and have plenty of time today so ill look around and talk to some people and try to get you an answer.
your deffinetly set up for a great swap, HOWEVER! is his truck a manual aswell? if his is an auto then im almost positive that the auto is longer. but as long as youhave the trucks side by side, your set up great to do the swap.
Brownie is right. When I did mine, I cut the boxing out of the donor truck and welded it in mine. Check out my gallery. Lots 'o pics from it. Keep in mind, I put in a D60. Do you have leafs or coils? If the suspension is the same, the rest is fairly easy. If you have to change suspension, it gets more involved. You'll want to swap out the tranny with the transfer case. It's just easier that way. Do you have the same cab configuration? If so, it'll be a straight swap of the driveshafts as well. Otherwise you'll have to get the driveshaft length adjusted. I'm sure I'l think of more.
Sounds like a good time for a RSK and a D60. The shakels are on the front of the leaf springs on a 250 right?
That is correct. I would do the RSH as well. The 2X4 are coil spring and the 4X4 are leaf, so since you are mounting the new brackets for the springs might as well do the RSK. Also consider using SD springs. They ride much smoother but are longer so since you are already doing the brackets like I said do the RSK and SD spring conversion.
