I hear about the people that make the transition from diesel to gas and how they are perfectly happy with the route they have gone, I seriously doubt it.
Now I'm perfectly happy with the 5.4 in the F-150 that I have, that really is a very nice truck and one I'm content to leave stock even with the audio/visual portion of it as well and I think the 5.4 is perfectly mated with the half ton truck platform. However, it still does not have the overall performance of the DRW. Now granted I do have about 200 hp on the 5.4, but I remembered it just sucked when it came to the F-250 that I had to drive a couple of weeks while the big girl was in the shop. Considering that the 5.4 has better response time in the F-150 and the diesel still drives circles around it even with a little trailer behind it says volumes.
Considering I have personal experience in this department, I can reasonably conclude that if people are saying that they are happy going from a diesel to a gas there is something other then performance coming into play, because I just don't see how they can say that and I haven't even hooked up the 150 to a bumper trailer(which won't ever happen unless I rent something from Home Depot or Co-Op as none of my trailers are bumper pull) yet.
I agree. I used to be happy with my f150 before I got my first diesel, but now there is no way I could imagine driving one everyday. I just feel so little in a half ton truck.
I truly believe that if you are planning on using your truck for any "work" (be it pulling or hauling) that diesel is the way to go. And besides, my wife says they look better when they are bigger.
I looked at stepping back down to a F150 5.4 from my 05-PSD.. I gotta say, that 5.4 is a dog.. The F150 has no power at all in my opinion. When I drove that thing on the freeway you have to tell it to go 65, I never got this feeling from other trucks.. It's been something I've felt on most ford products honestly. I don't like having to smash the pedal to make it go 65.

I didn't feel that way with my F-150. Now I did feel that way with the 5.4 in the F-250 though. Even with the 3.55 it does pretty well compared to the same drive with the F-250. Both unloaded on this drive. I probably won't have this one hooked up to a trailer at all unless I just have to rent something that requires a bumper hitch. Even though I'm not planning on hooking this one up to a trailer, they just got done today installing the TBC on the 150(just got back from picking it up as a matter of fact) just in case that I do have to hook it up.
I had a few chevy half tons thru the years and the last one was the best but I did put 4.10 gears in it and build a 300+hp sbc for it. It ran great and got about the same mpgs as my current truck (it was a reg cab swb 4x4 with 35" tires). I never really pulled much of anything heavy with it and always had tranny issues. The only thing I miss about the old truck though is parking. It could fit anywhere and had a small turning radius. Somthing my psd will never be able to do.
i get in my wife's 98 1/2 ton dodge, and let's just say.... it's SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. no other way around it. but it DOES need motor work to get a little bit more "oopmh" back in it. but it's still slow. and mileage SUCKS.
I liked alot of stuff about my 5.4 3v 07screw, nice truck great interior. possible the worst vibration issues I have ever seen though. I got up one morning and started it up and heard the starts of a lifter rattle, sold the the truck 2 weeks later and got a 6.0l
Nothing wrong with a half ton truck, but I made the mistake one year of trading in for a half ton as my main vehicle. It did alright until hooking up to a trailer then I had to balance everything unlike my 3/4 tons.....sold that sucker in less than 2 years. This was back in the early nineties and it was a ......................Cheby OK flame me!
On the engine side of things I have always used Big Block Chevy engines, bought my first Ford diesel in 95 and never looked back. To many heat related issues when pulling heavy trailers the diesel will handle with no problem.
I have 2 gassers, 1 GMC 1500 and 1 Chrysler Aspen and then the 6.0 Diesel Ex and I do like the gassers because they are quiet and don't smell at all! My Diesel has much more power and gets better mpgs! They each have there pro's and cons! My opinion is that gassers are great until you have to tow something heavy like a toy hauler or fifth wheel.

I won't argue with the noise but I don't think my 6.0 smells at all. Maybe I have just gotten used to it over the years but I have often thought that I miss the smell of the old diesels.
