cruising along @ 70........ Truck dies? drove about 60 miles since re-fuel, it was like some0ne just turned it off, or cut the fuel. Not running rough or anything. Edge programmer throwing a KAM error, which after some freeway reading here said it was pretty normal with programmers. No check engine light, wait to start light comes on, and I replaced the cam positioning sensor along the freeway. new batts, new starter, new alternator. cranks FAST but won't fire off. 87,000 miles. 97 f350 7.3l
not a diesel mechanic, just a dumb pipefitter.
deffinetly sounds like the Cam position sensor. to check, does the tach bounce at all when cranking? its suposed to, if it doesnt then you found your 30$ problem!
Well typically if it just shuts down w/o sputtering or running rough the problem is electrical.
But, Yes, check for smoke, fuel in the fuel bowl, oil level, and whatnot also.
do you have a chip? i had my chip come out jusssst a hair and it killed my truck around a corner, that was fun. if not then look to see if #22 fuse is shot, a fuel heater element will short out aka brake the solder in the fuel bowl and kill the idm fuse

IDM Failure
plugged in an IDM out of a 95' and it fired right up.
now I just need to figure out how to pull money out of my @$$.
thank you everyone for your input. The mechanic assured me it had nothing to do with my edge programmer. purely coincidental. still alittle wary though. just too convienient for this to happen two weeks after programming. He runs Edge products in his personal vehicles and tow trucks alike with no issues. Was told it was the best "off the shelf" programmer on the market. not as good as a custom DP tuner of course, but for a canned programmer, they are top notch. now I'm off to go sell a child to pay for this.
How does that "mechanic" know that the edge didn't do that? I'd be a little worried about it if it were mine. I've heard some not so good stories about the edge in our trucks. I hate to see you get a new IDM and have the same thing happen again. jmo
