Any tips/tricks for removing Exhaust manifolds?

I would start it up and run it for just one minute. Just enough to get it warm to touch then spray the bolts with PB-Blaster. Then try to turn them carefully. If a bolt doesn't turn easily stop and spray again. Sometimes I tap on the bolt heads with a hammer if I can get to them just to help break them loose.

Try this, get the mantifold hot, brush off the bolt area with a wire brush to get as much of the rust off as you can and put a birthday candle between the bolt head and the mantifold. the candle will melt and be drawn into the threads kinda like when you solder a copper pipe. ( capillary action) Use about 1 candle per bolt, the wax will wick into the bolt threads and make it easier to remove. I think birthday candles are made from beeswax. If you strip the head of the bolt use a bolt extractor on the head you will probably have to get new bolts afterwards. I have done this many times on mantifold bolts and it works pretty good. PB blaster works well too but this is a method an old timer passed on to me and it works good too. like they said go slow and easy, once you get it loose go back and forth with the bolt to loosen it before you try to back it all the way out
