when i turn my key to warm up the glow plugs my check gauges light stays on, the only other light that stays on is the battery light. i dont ever remember this doing this so im wondering if this has something to do with my hard starts on cold mornings. i always thought all of the lights went out after a couple seconds. its either that or my oil pressure doesnt move until AFTER the truck is started, i always thought that gauge moved before ignition also. i just cant remember so i figured i would ask some that have proper running trucks to take a look for me. thanx
yeah, all the lights come on, then the only 2 to stay on are check gauges and battery. my oil pressure also doesnt move before i start or when cranking, i had thought i read somewhere that the oil pressure gause moved when the key was either turned to the on position or when cranking. mine doesnt move until the truck is running, then it moves right up to where it should be.
If your oil pressure gauge moves before you start your truck...I'd be worried...
You can't have oil pressure until the engine starts and the pump builds pressure, so what you are describing with your pressure gauge is perfectly normal.
sorry...this was with the key in "on" with the engine not running. when i crank her up all lights go out. I was responding to the original post asking what lights are supposed to stay on.
damn, your check gauges light goes out before you fire it up? thats wierd, i dont know what its telling me to check with that light, the only other one lit up is the battery one, but all of them go off after i start the truck. i really dont want to take it to the stealership just to plug it in and tell me, anyone have any ideas? why is it telling me to check gauges when the only one on is the battery one?
I just checked mine, my oil and battery light stay on until I crank it over. I have one year old batteries, and no charging probs.
The 97 here at work also has two new batts, and a new alt and the battery light also stays on until you crank it.
