engine swaps

Hey guys, Im toying with the idea of changeing my 351W EFI over to a carb system. any thoughts? good idea or nort. any one know whats involved?
i have done some reading and part serches and it keeps telling me that a 302 intake and carb will work. any one know if this is true or not?
the reason i was thinking of doing this is because i mud race the truck and i like compeating in stock class. not huge expensive power. i want to do this so i can eliminate some of the wireing with the truck. i think the distributor will have to change to for the timing aspect of it.
any thoughts. Am i crazy lol ?
im not scared of the work involved and i have every tool possible.

thanks for any input
Jr

Hi Jr, a 302 intake won`t work as a 351 is an inch and a half wider, the distributor will have to be changed.
Read thru the Small Block V8 (221, 260, 289, 5.0/302, 5.8/351W) forum to get all the correct info: Small Block V8 (221, 260, 289, 5.0/302, 5.8/351W) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

If the fuel injection is working fine I'd leave it. Since you mud race you probably offroad some also? Fuel injection is capable of working extreme angles and is hard to stall.

You are correct. there is nothing i don't try atleat once. lol
if i leave the EFI is there any thing i can do to simplifly things. i still need the computer and all the wireing crap. how about the polution garbage? can i loose that with out creating a headach?
i would like to have a basic igniton sytstem and so on. the main reason i like the carbs ystem is i have experiance with them. my old rig i had it so i could have the drive train out and on a stand with in an afternoon and have it running on the stand. i guess i just have to figure a new system out. the older stuff is harder to come by. lol i need to get with the times. thanks for your input. this is why i love this site, good ideas and great support.
thanks again
Jr

You know man, I used tot hink the efi system was really complicated too, but its really not all that bad.

This site has a really huge kickass bunch of users, and a world of information, and you can pretty much figure out anything about a ford truck on this site, including fuel injection.

Now i dont know everything about it myself, but I do know I like it for some reasons. I wouldnt shy away from a carb either, but IMO if your truck has efi, I would leave it personally.

Yay for carbs! Now we just have to get rid of those pesky valve covers.

Ya even I say stick with the EFI. Just have to get sensor block offs for the emission crud you take off.
