2008 6.4lit Piston Damage

Here is the result from over fueling on a 6.4 lit. over fueling can be caused by overfilling the crankcase with oil. Fuel injection leaking, tuners. Over fueling caused this piston to melt and crack causing no compression.

The normal spray pattern can be seen on the other pistons leading to injector failure.

Was that repair covered by warranty? Cost?

Very interesting pics, thanks for posting!

How would overfilling the crankcase with oil cause an overfueling condition?

Warranty is covering this repair because the customer has all his maintance records. Ford Tech Hotline states that the crankcase line is so low on the engine that if overfilled it can get sucked into the air intake. I found about 2 1/2 qt of oil in the CAC. Turbo axial and radial play is in specs. I believe the the injector was overfueling causing the concern. The oil in the intake is the result of the hole in the piston raising crankcase pressure. So far, it's covered and as soon as I have all the parts, it's all back together.

all the more reason to check your oil every week, and on fuel stops when traveling. Keeping records online at the owners website can be helpful as well.
