I need help...Please

I need help. This is my first project and I am learning as I go. I have reached the end of the internet doing numerous searches for days, I have the Chilton Manual, I have looked thru the engine and everything. I cannot find where to put the Oil pressure sensor for a manual gauge. I cant even find where the current oil pressure sender is or if one is currently installed. I have found the water temperature "port" just next to the oil filter.

Here's some back ground on the truck
1978 F150 Reg. cab. I got it from my father-in-law, it has a a reman 400ci from Fred Jones, I has a new tranny, and pretty much everything from the floor boards down is new. The only mechanical problems are a catch in the steering which I am working on and ALL the electronics. They stripped the inside of the truck to rebuild it and then just dropped the ball. The guy who was doing the rewiring really did IMO a half-way job because instead of running new wires, he just spliced into the original harness. And I guess he planned to get a new original cluster and dash. There are no gauges hooked up at all, the old cluster is riding in a box half broken. I want to hook up an Oil pressure gauge and a water temp gauge, both manual, partly because all the electric is a mess. After most of this work, the truck has sat for close to a year. I have changed the oil and replaced the air filter. I plan to change the tranny fluid and coolant soon

The engine does have a 4 bbl Edelbrock on top with the Edelbrock 400 Performer Intake manifold

Thank you for all your help,

And I guess I will take my lashings now since I am asking what is probably a very simple question, I have however resisted doing this as long as I could, but I cannot find the info anywhere. I would love just a good diagram of the motor.

I surrender to the Ford Masters

If I remember correctly it is on the top of the block behind intake at the firewall. Some ford engines had them on the filter holder. it's one of those two spots. I think the 351m 400, you will find it on the top of the block by the fire wall.

I will take a look at that tomorrow after the rain. If there is not a sensor in the port, what should it look like?

phubble,
If you click on my user name and go to my gallery there is a picture of the back of my engine and the oil pressure sending unit stands out like a sore thumb. Take a look.

Well, I found it, had everything ready , took off air cleaner to get to it, used a ladder to get up and basically lay over the engine. And then, wouldn't you know it, they had used a small plug with a allen wrench head to plug the hole and it had rusted, and the it stripped out as soon as I turned, it had to have already been mostly stripped because it pretty much went round with very little resistance. so I think I might take it to a local mechanic to see how much he wants to get the plug out.

The last long block I purchased had a plastic plug in there. Are you sure it is stripped, I would think being in the block the threads would be protected. What stripped, the threads or the hex for the allen tool ?
