I have a 2008 Superduty with the tail gate step and handle.I was going to put a Lighted 60 inch Led under tailgate but on the right side of tailgate there is a bracket bolted to the bed and one bolted to the tailgate?Is this an anti theft to keep you from sliding tailgate off or just what is it?Can this be removed with out effecting anything?Thank You for any imput.

It sounds like you might be seeing the counterweight spring. Beginning in '08 they counterbalance the weight of the gate. Got a picture?
I could be wrong, but I believe it is meant to set the tailgate on when removing it. A friend removes the gate on his old dodge to make room for his sled on weekends, but then puts it back on for the week so he can haul stuff (he is a carpenter); any way, his truck has something similar that he sets the gate on while he removes the second hinge.
