04 6.0. I was having surging issues then it started running like a cylinder or two was down. The truck shakes terribly in overdrive and has a tremendous lack of power. I dropped the front wheels off the edge of the road and had to use 4 low to get it to pull itself over a three inch ledge. I've added fuel treatment and changed both filters. They both looked new. I took it back to the lot where I bought it from three days ago and they told me it couldn't be fixed until a check engine light came on so he would know what the problem is. I am a triple certified marine mechanic and I know a little better than that. The truck also won't start when the engine is warm. If you crank it for thirty seconds it will finally start but I know what that does to the starter. I'm getting ready to put a stop payment on the check I wrote him and go buy a dodge.
Be it any make of vehicle, 3 days and trouble......not going to own that thing unless they gave it to me. Did I ever tell you I despise salesmen
Got flagged down by a salesmen at our local Ford dealer last month while window shopping. I previously had stopped by a nice SuperDuty and he wanted to know if I would be interested. I told him I was waiting for the new 6.7L diesel (Insert Deer in the head light look) and was not interested but Thanks. He scratched his head, 6.7?
I put 4k down and the check hasn't cleared my bank yet so I think I will stop payment and take it to ford and after it is fixed pay him what's left but I'm not sure what kind of legal trouble that will get me in. He told me this morning he would take care of it although I signed an as is. But he keeps giving me the run around telling me to put fuel treatment in it and let it idle the rest of the day. I have never in my life seen anything in a can fix a problem. It may help prevent a problem but not fix it. I'm already $150 into repairs out of my own pocket 50 for the filters and the filter cap on the frame rail was stripped because some genius used vise grips instead of a socket and 10 bucks for fuel treatment. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will catch on fire tonight in my driveway.
The shuddering or shaking on acceleration is likely the EGR stuck from carbon, a hard start could be a high pressure leak or ICP/ICP connection at fault.
I just noticed that the connector that plugs directly into the device mounted on top of the turbo Is broken. The plastic clip that holds in it is missing. Not sure what it is or what it does but possibly has something to do with my problems.
that device controls boost from the turbo.i'd guess the turbo's been off before and it got broke in the process.sure sounds like you've got a bad injector or 2, but take maximum's advice and clean the egr valve good.tell the lot to do a cylinder contribution test on it, that'll tell you real quick if it is an injector or not.is it smoking when it's missing?.also, are you going through coolant?.it's a shame that people sell rigs like this to people like us. i can almost guaranty you he knew something was up when he sold it.
No smoke and he told me he couldn't test for anything unless a check engine light came on that's when I laughed in his face. I tried crawling around under it with a infrared thermometer to check for cold cylinders but I couldn't get to all of them. I test drove the truck three times over a three week period before I bought it and it ran perfect. Starting to wonder if they could have doctored it up to make it run right for a short time.
