nerf bars/steps

I've been thinking about putting steps or bars on my 79 so that my wife and other vertically challanged folks will have a little easier time getting in and out of the ole girl. I was just wondering if any body has added them to their truck and what brands or styles you liked the best as far as fit, function, and look. I've also been thinking about fabbing some brackets or mounts and make my own steps with diamond plate treads but I'm not sure if I should mount them to the bottom of the cab or the frame?

I'm possibly going to make some for the crew if I can't convince the girl that she CAN get in and out of the truck without them.

I personally don't like the looks but she insists she needs them.

I will be making something like this as it is the only style I can put up with having attached to my truck. I will be attaching to the frame not the cab, and will be trying to execute it slightly cleaner (main bar closer to the rockers and ending at the end of cab rather than SLIGHTLY running under bed).

If I'm not mistaken, Carr still makes steps that will work on our rigs, but it's just a step, as opposed to a full nerfbar/running board setup. The steps are called the Hoop, the Hoop II, and the Super Hoop. I'm treating that as my last resort, as I'm going to probably find the closest match I can for the wheelbase of my truck, and then have to fab a set of brackets to mount them to the frame.

I think my best bet in regard to making a custom nerfbar for my truck, is to find a company that can make a 3" bar in polished stainless that matches my wheelbase, but with NO STEP PADS. Then, I can go to a company like Carr, and they have tread plates specifically made for 3" tubing, and install them where I want them. That way, I can have steps for the door, but also the bed.

I know they make wheel-to-wheel nerf bars, but the problem is that they always have that middle third step for a crewcab like door. With a Supercab, I have no need for that odd step, and want to come up with a solution that is more appropriate.

Anyway, that's pretty much my plan at the moment.

The guy at the local weding shop made these for me cause my wife kept falling out of the truck. He welded a plate to the frame and then bolted the step to the plate on the frame and also to the body. I can take the steps off if I go rock crawling.
