Viper Remote Start Issue

I had a Viper 5901 professionally installed a few months back. Every time the engine is cold it will try to start, fail, then try again and succeed.

By hand on a cold start it has never failed.

The glow plug delay is not the issue as I've watched it and they are ready to go every time. Someone said something about a tach module to fix this, but I'm not sure of the specifics.

Video on it:

A friend has the same problem with his. You can reprogram a longer crank time into it but it will crank to long on a warm start. Not much you can do about it.

I have the same alarm, and sbowling is correct. You need to have it programed for a longer start. I had the same issue when I had mine installed. I had to take it back and they reprogrammed it to start longer. Now it starts on the first crank where as before it would go through all three cranks and still no start.

..it's not the "length of crank." It is the tach reading--do a search on here to get the specifics... Think about it--if it were a length of crank issue, you would have to let it crank that long when you manually start it. And based on your video, it is already cranking too long (mine gets progressively longer if it doesn't start on the first crank). You need to use the virtual tach feature and the green and white wire under the dash (again, do a search for specifics--I may be wrong about the color, off hand).

Erwin is right I said it before it's a tach issue.

Oops I should have watched the video first. It's cranking long enough for sure.

Tach signal is the only way to go. Voltage sensing which is what most alarms are setup for now just don't cut it with the glow plug draw and the alternator delay of the 6.0.

I have the same alarm/remote start on mine and have an "opposite" problem. Mine starts the first crank every time when cold, but will often require 2 or 3 when the engine is warmer. Not sure what that is about- maybe the same issue and I am just getting "lucky" on the cold starts?

I had the same problem. You need the tach generator part. It boosts the tach signal. Very simple solution and my remote start has worked flawlessly since the addition of the tach generator part. The part comes with the product... at least mine did. The installer should have put it on in the first place. Mine only acted up under cold conditions. If it was warm, I had no problems.

it doesn't come with the tech generator. I have the same remote starter. its not the starter its the truck. its cranking long enough. its ether fuel or your glow plugs are getting week. don't worry about it. as long as it starts your fine.

I run a viper and remote start ,, no tach module ,, I set my crank time longer and the anti grind on ,, originally when mine was giving me the same issue ,, however when I replaced my batteries all my long starts disappeared ,, so def make sure those are top notch
