Weird sounds from engine

New to diesel, but..
1) I plugged in the block heater on my '93 and later noticed a faint bubbling sound coming from engine. Is this normal? What is it?
2) After I cycle the glow plugs I hear a relay clicking sound that lasts about 10 seconds. It will continue after the truck has started and then will stop. I notice it will cause the voltage gauge to move until it stops. Again, it does stop but is this normal? What is it?

Thanks!

all very normal, the block heater makes that sound as it warms. The glow plug relay is doing what is called an afterglow to continue warming the engine to make the start up process easier. It will smooth out the idle a lot with a good afterglow. With your vehicle doing that, it is working as normal. Is it cold where you are?

Perfect, thanks! I live in Northwestern Connecticut, so I figure anything below 35F would require the enigine to keep the fuel warm.

I don't plug my truck in at all here. When it dipped down to 18f my truck still started fine. As long as the gp system is working great they can start really cold but I would plug in on a timer if it was going to drop below 20f. Maybe 1-2 hours prior to needing it.
