Purchasing a rebuild kit ---Question?

I am looking at purchasing a rebuild kit and am wondering what size ring kit i should use? i am assuming that the block has not been messed with yet the milage on the trucks is 286204 miles. And if u guys know any place that have good deals let me know because ebay sells some for about $600 bucks so i wanna see if there is any other good places???? ====Thanks in advance

This depends on what size motor you have and what size pistons you have.

Well its a 7.3l engine and as far as i know everything is stock ...

If my understanding is right the 7.3s have specific pistons matched to the holes, so you have to tear them down to see how the block is stamped on each hole, kinda like a suzuki.

so would that mean id have to get different sized rings ?? so i couldnt just purchase a kit that has say the piston rings w/3mm top rings?

I have never been in one but have read that the block is stamped for each cylinders size.
Kinda generic sounding to me.

7.3 engines have A, B and C pistons as well as S.

S pistons may be used in any cylinder.
Today most rebuild kits will probably have S rings.

But your first priority will be to tear the engine down, find out how much cylinder wear and taper you have.
Where you go after that and what parts you need will depend on what you find when you tear it down.
