i just saw that a guy is selling a 1992 f350... now i was thinking about trading him my daily driver vw bug. he said the only problem was that it had a blown tranny
my idea was to get it home and put my 84f250 tranny in... would this work??? they r both autos and i think both block r the same so it should work right???? i mean the torque converter and everything will be swapped. cuz idk if his is good or not and my tranny works like a champ
Are they both either 2x or 4x yours is a c6 and the 92 will have a E40D If I understand right you will need to swap flywheel and flex plate. Every thing will bolt up, you may have to do some drive shaft work. You will also lose the overdrive.
i dont know if that 92 is 4x4 or not but that doesnt matter cuz if it is 4x4 that mean i only lose it, mine is a none 4x4. wut is the flex plate, w8 i thought that tranny didnt change till 94.5? i thought about that after i typed this all up.
so all fails all i do is take the tranny flywheel and flexplate off my truck and pull that off the 92 and then reinstall mine into the 92? coudl this be done in a weekend? cuz i would need this done fast considering i wont have anything to drive cuz the bug is my only working car
If it is a 2x and the trans are the same length. This I dont know too much about auto's.
But if they are the the same length or if they are both the same length from the front of tranny (back of motor) to the carrier bearing in the drive line. It can be done in a weekend.
yes i dont know much about any tranny... pls if anyone knows if i can get a auto tranny from a 84 f250 into a 92 f350. pls tell me and wut all i have to do... my tranny has a highway overdrive system attached to the back. so i know i will need a new drive shaft.... im not worred about that part i know some where i can get that done at, cuz this 92 is a 4door and mine is a extended cab.
as long as that 7.3 will line match up to my tranny without spending to much money that would be awsome.
If you can take care of the driveline then yes you can do it and if your gearvendor is functioning you will still have overdrive.PM david 85 and he can tell you if the shift linkage is the same. He took a C6 out of an 85 and put an E40D in. Every thing will bolt up to the motor. You will have to measure for the tranny mount but you can make that work.
'89 was the first year for the E4OD. Early E4ODs actually use the C6-style flywheel, the flexplate behind it may be different tho, I dunno. Also at some point the cast-iron flywheel was eliminated and a spacer was used in its place at the crankshaft.
If that F350 is 4x4 I highly suggest that you do your best to keep the system operational, even if that means ditching your 2wd C6 transmission and finding a 4x4 version of it. You'll have to rewire the transmission harness a bit as the E4OD has a different NSS than the C6, wires will be there but you'll have to cut them and splice the C6 plug in. Also the C6 requires no PCM, so when the E4OD goes you can also ditch its PCM and tons of wires associated with it.
