Hello (introduction)

hey guys,
My name's Bobby, im 20 years old. I just purchased an 86 f150 4x4 with the 300 I6 and a 4spd manual as a daily driver to replace my turbo'd lexus sc300 which has become too much to deal with as a daily and serves much better as a weekend toy.

For starters, this truck was a kids old hunting truck and has been completely hacked to ****. i dont think there's a single connector in the engine bay thats actually connected to where it belongs. The truck ran when i bought it a few days ago but then completely stopped running yesterday. It liked to die instead of idle if i didnt keep a foot sightly on the gas and now it wont evene turn over. I replaced the starter and am getting ready to replace the batter, starter solenoid, and battery cables. I have plenty of mechanical ability (forced induction, swapping motors and trannys, etc) but this is the first carb. motor ive ever owned or laid hands on and i'll admit that i have no clue.

I want to either find a way to wire the truck with just the essentials for running (starter, ignition, fuel pump, etc.) or replace the engine harness completely because you might throw up a little in your mouth if i were to post a picture of the engine bay and the wiring that was done. And with that being said, I'd really appreciate a point in the right direction or some pointers of where to start looking for info on rewiring this truck myself or finding a new wiring harness to start fresh with.

thanks for taking the time to read and if this is in the wrong section, my bad please direct me to where it should be.

Welcome to FTE.
Before you go pulling the starter and all that post a thread for help and someone will chime in with some answers. There is a lot of electrical Guru's on this site and they will walk you thru a testing procedure before you start throwing money at it. Isolate the problem an then buy the parts.

Sounds like the alt isnt working and your battery voltage got too low to keep the engine running. Do you have a voltmeter?
