Locking the manual hubs
Hi guys..haven't posted much since i joined but here is my question..I have a 01 Super duty F250 I use for ploughing..auto trans with the manual 4 wheel shifter ....it seems that my hubs (manual) ..have 3 positions..there is the counter clockwise..that is suposed to be "lock"...then there is clockwise that is "free"...then there is a dot that seems to give me the proper 4 wheel engagement..which is somewhere in the middle between the other 2 settings..up until now I was having trouble keeping the 4 wheel engaged.. which was making me lose traction on even flat surface.....the truck is high mileage but it was not abused...up till now i thought it was only 2 settings ..seems I have 3..is this right?

It sounds like you have a problem with your hubs. They should stop at the dot to be locked in. Your description suggests it is passing this point. It should be only a quarter turn from lock to unlock.

....I suspect that there is a problem with the hubs..therefore my remedy is to replace the hubs..or at least dismantle and try to re-istall correctly...if the parts are still serviceable..I think DPorter you hit it bang on..may be time to inspect the hubs....(twags6)...yes they look like factory hubs.....thank you guys..
