I had to leave for work right after the US scored their first goal. I can't believe I missed the rest of the game. It definitely would have been worth calling in sick for. Congrats to Sid the Kid and Team Canada.
I didn't get to see any of it, but I'm glad the US put up a good fight.
But seriously, how much better do you think it would be if all the countries were required to field non-professional players. I mean, if you play pro hockey anywhere in the world, you are not eligible to play in the Olympics.
It would be even more exciting if a group of non-professionals played and beat a group of professionals.
I don't think it would have been better at all. Slower paced, mediocre puck passing, more goals scored with a lot more errors....but the word "better" doesn't come to mind.
I mean...everyone was still on an even keel with one and other. It’s just more exciting to watch the pro's play....which is why they dropped the all armature lines years ago.
It would kind of be like having the world juniors played twice in one year every 4 years.

It was a great game all right.
But it didn't go as smoothly as one would hope. Lots of sloppiness with all the teams, throughout the whole tournament, as the teams were still trying to gel.
In any case, I think the teams should use whoever is available, NHL, KHL, whatever.
Look at Norway, their starting goalie is a full time carpenter who plays hockey part time. And he didn't do too horribly, considering he isn't a professional hockey player. A lot of their players are playing in the Swedish Elite League. Definitely a different way to play the game, but I gotta give them props.
And props to Team USA. Miller did an outstanding job in net, and Ryan Kesler, for getting them back in the game with the first goal. And to Parise, dammit man you nearly gave me a heart attack.
Are you a Canucks fan? Luongo was the shackiest goalie in the tourny after brodeur. That tying goal should not have happened the way it did, had LOOOOOOO been able to make an easy glove save and hold on to the puck. I really wish I had been at the game against the Slovaks, would have been fun being the only person in the arena yelling LOOOOOOOOO after that first goal they scored. That guy is a bum. And although Kipper did get lit up against the US he is still just a smoother goalie it seems, more fluid in his play.

Yes, I am a Canucks fan.
But, Luongo and Brodeur are 2 different goalies. Those goals Brodeur allowed last week, well, let's just say I'm not the only one who thinks Luongo would have stopped them. However, I have to concede that Brodeur is a better shootout goalie. And I do get nervous when Luongo tries to handle the puck.
I too must concede that Luongo is better then anybody you guys have had since Kirk Maclean in his prime. And Luongo does have the second most home wins of any NHL goalie since joining the Canucks, second to Kipper. We've been spoiled since we got kipper, but things do not look good for us once he is gone. So far anyways. I also can't wait for Fleury to get his chance at the Olympics, maybe make up for his WJC blunder.
