I have an 02 F350 Reg cab 4.10 gears V10 that is getting 6 mpg and has had a rough idle for a while now. Had it into a mechanic numerous times for it and they just keep replacing coils and changing me a few hundred dollar bill each time. There is no check engine light but the abs does pop on when it starts to idle rough then goes away. I had the plugs changed at 60k thinking this may help but nothing has changed and now has 75k on it. I am looking to replace all ten coils with boots. I've done some research through the forums about this and have had mixed reviews on different manufactures of coils. Suggestions?
The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) will not illuminate for Misfire DTC's on your 2002 MY truck. Back then the over 8,500 GVW trucks were exempt from OBD II regs. There will still be a code set in memory though.
I just replaced a COP today for a misfire. P0310 was set in memory indicating that cyl # 10 was not firing. Bad coil. The secondary side was open, verified by my DVOM. I went to O'Reilly auto and bought a Motorcraft DG-508 for $45. Good price. The other option was a Borg Warner part. IMO, both are good. Since I was only buying one I picked the Ford part. I would definitely stay away from the no name brand eBay coils.
