fuel lines

I am planning to drop my rear tank to replace the lock rings on the tank and remove the vent tube inside the filler pipe. My question is can i replace the flexible fuel lines that go from the tank to the hard line with a regular piece of diesel fuel hose and double clamp em.Or would that create problems? Thanks

I guess you could, but why the only ones I have ever seen that I thought were bad was one that sat for several years without a bed on it, and the hot nm sun kinda made it brittle.

Make sure you take the little clips out and they come off easy. They have some special orings in the connector, this would be a good time to replace them. Years ago I used a short piece of 3/8 fuel line on a customers tank and just clamped it on the sending unit and on the existing line with no problems. I had forgot about it until I traded for it and parted it out, so it out lasted the pickup. lol

I don't know how it could have been kinked, but if you think it interfears with flow I would either replace it, or use a piece of 5/16 fuel line to put a splice in it. I have not tried it , but I think a 5/16 air line splice will work on it and you would have a compression splice.

OK. Would a water line compression splice work? I was thinking of putting a splice on both lines before the kinks, and putting a barbed fitting on one side of the compression fitting, putting rubber fuel line in place of the old kinked section to make it easier to drop the tank in the future. Tell me what you think.

I am not sure about a water line splice. The ones I am talking about are for the nylon air line fittings and hold 120 pounds air pressure constantly indefinately. Plus they are easy to take apart. I have some splices and may be able to find some junk fuel line to try this, and then I would know for sure what I'm talking about.
