Tune up, now wont start.

I just tuned up my truck, replaced cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and coil. coil is a 48,000 volt coil so i could gap my plugs to .055, as per a "performance" tune i found on fullsizebronco website. After the tune up, my truck wouldnt start. i tripled checked the wires, they are all in the right spot. then, near the coil i found a loose wire going into a black piece of plastic attached to the coil mount (ground?). so i wiggled it and it broke off. to see if the truck would run, i just clamped this wire right onto the mount. see picture: truck on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

it worked, the truck ran, i revved in neutral it ran good. i put it in reverse backed up about a foot and the truck died and wont start. the starter still runs, but when i put the key to on i dont hear the fuel pump. i checked the fuses in the fuse box they are all fine. what have i done? whats wrong?

truck is 1996 f-250 5.8L

thanks

I think the wire is supposed to connect to the 'module' just below where you've 'clamped' it .. mines older and the 'module' looks different, but have a look ..

Un-clamp it!!!
That wire goes to the radio cap and you just shorted the Ignition system to ground.

You also now have a bad fuse #22 a 20 Amp Fuse in your engine compartment fuse box.

Any auto parts store should have the radio capacitor (condenser as they were called in the 1920's).
Just leave the wire off and insulated from any metal. The truck should run OK but may have some radio noise.

condenser .. that's what I was gonna call it (searched for parts w/ 'condenser' and only got the part for A/C) .. just didn't want to be wrong (wasn't 100%) and lead redcoat astray ..

might be OK with certain stations .. might get noise on different frequencies .. (especially on AM) .. radio might have some background whine, changing pitch with RPM ..
