I AM GOING TO CHANGE THE DIFF LUBE IN MY 97 F250 LKNG DIFF. IS 85W-140 NON- SYNTHETIC OK TO USE. ALSO DOES THE ADDITIVE HAVE TO BE THE ONE FORD SELL OR CAN I USE THE DIFF ADDIDTIVE FROM AN AUTO PTS STORE ADEQUATE. THANX IN ADVANCE
Don't know for sure on your truck but seems like the weight lube you plan to use is a bit thick(high #). Any reason for that? Most use something like 75W-90. For towing and hot weather I might go with the 140 weight but usually would stay away unless it was an older model, or called out in the manual.
I use Stalube additive for my truck and car limited slips. Most people recommend 2 tubes on the truck or if synthetic is used. The Stalube tube says meets the applicable Ford and Chevy Specs.
I used Valvoline synthetic 75W90 and 2 tubes of Stalube.
